SUPER 16 EXTRAVAGANZA "FALL HS CHAMPIONSHIP"

The Super 16 Extravaganza "Fall HS Championship" took place this past weekend at the newly renovated Cypress based facility, The Den Sports Complex.

Here are the RESULTS / SCHEDULE for your viewing pleasure.  Download the Rcs Sports app for complete rosters.  All games were live streamed and you may watch the replays here >>> via BallerTV

POOL A
Fort Bend Marshall: Fort Bend Marshall has reached the regional championship game in consecutive years, only to be defeated by Killeen Ellison on both occasions. This season, Eian Lowe ('25), entering his third year as a starter, will lead the team after an impressive summer. He will receive support from Kevin Sergeant ('25), a tough forward, and Armani Theus ('26), a skilled guard. Additionally, they are the reigning Super 16 champions.

Katy: The Katy Tigers emerged as a surprising contender last season, reaching the playoffs despite low expectations. A significant factor in their success was Brady Willis ('26), one of the city's top players. Willis excels as a versatile forward, capable of scoring from both close range and beyond the arc, and he is also a tenacious rebounder. Additionally, Jayden Stewart ('26), who has committed to play baseball at UH, will play a crucial role for the Tigers.

Kingwood: Kingwood is aiming to bounce back after a lackluster season last year. With MJ Redic ('25) at the helm, they hope to secure a playoff position this time around. Additionally, keep an eye on James Knigin ('25) and Dylan Brewer ('25) as key contributors for the Mustangs this season.  This team earned an invited after faring well in one of the 'JRB Events' grassroots showcases this past summer.

POOL B
Cinco Ranch: Cinco Ranch is under the leadership of the Jones-Bynum brothers. Prince ('25), the older sibling, showcases exceptional talent, while Dylan ('27), now a sophomore, is poised to be recognized among the top players in his class. Additionally, Noah Pearce ('25), a skilled guard, is expected to play a crucial role in the team's success at Cinco.

Summer Creek: A new chapter begins at Summer Creek with Daniel Moore leading the school. He has a talented roster, highlighted by senior stars Damond Matthews ('25) and Demorae Pritchett ('25)Reggie Rideau ('26) returns for his third season on varsity, while Bruce Sarver's ('25) contributions will be vital to their success.

Heights: Coach Barrares and the Heights aim to return to the playoffs with a skilled roster of young players. The standout player is Derrick Baines Jr. ('25), who joins the Bulldogs from Cy Falls. Additionally, keep an eye on promising Sophomores and Freshmen like Micah Malone ('27)Jaime Carreon ('27)Eric Beard ('28), and Eric Ekwegbara ('28).

POOL C
Katy Jordan: Katy Jordan has experienced significant success in its short school history, and this season is expected to continue that trend. They are poised to compete for a chance to head to San Antonio. The team is anchored by the experienced backcourt duo of Jaden Holt ('25) and Elijah Black ('25), while Jude Oluokun ('25) and Rayan Fadika ('25) contribute effectively in the paint. Young talent Marwane Fadika ('27) shows great promise, and Jonah Folse ('25) is an excellent shooter. With their depth, this team is among the favorites for the upcoming weekend.

CE King: Despite Bryson Wheatfall's recent ineligibility ruling by the UIL, CE King remains a strong contender this weekend. Christian Thomas ('25) stands out as the primary player for the Panthers. Davin Cross ('25) is a versatile forward whose skills are developing. Eric Lavergne ('25), one of the city's most underrated point guards, consistently delivers results, and with the opportunity to lead, he will be exciting to watch.

Wheatley: The pride of the 5th Ward has returned, presenting Wheatley with an opportunity to secure a district championship. Quinton Sanders ('25), a starter since his freshman year, leads this iteration of the Wildcats. Herbert Goldsmith ('26) exemplifies a "Go Getter," always doing what it takes to achieve victory. Additionally, the presence of Kam'ron Hamilton ('25) will be crucial, and keep an eye on freshman Peter Dorsey ('28) for valuable contributions.

POOL D
Shadow Creek: Shadow Creek is a top contender in 6A for a shot at San Antonio, and it's easy to see why. The team boasts a strong returning veteran lineup and arguably the most talented backcourt in the city, if not the state. Mike Collins ('25) is back after an impressive junior year, and Bryce Jackson ('25) is now fully fit. The addition of Julian Cullier ('25) and Adin Lewis ('25) further enhances their depth. Aiden Law's ('25) transfer into Shadow Creek is significant, as he is an exceptional shooter. This squad will be a formidable opponent, and is expected to be playing on Sunday afternoon.

Seven Lakes: The AJ Bates era has concluded at Seven Lakes, with him moving to Louisiana Tech and standout guard Nasir Price transferring to Link Academy. The team is now under the leadership of the exceptionally skilled Isaiah Santos ('27)Sean Mwesigwa ('26) is poised to emerge as a key player for the Spartans, while Ayden Clarke ('25), a talented guard, has the potential to heat up and lead the team. This new iteration of Seven Lakes promises to be intriguing to follow.

Nimitz: Nimitz is now led by former Summer Creek coach Kenneth Coleman, who is expected to instill a tough, defensive mindset in the team. He has several key players to build around, including seniors Jaden Bergeron ('25)Jamiren Ratliff ('25), and Eliyahs Hood ('25). Additionally, Coach Coleman's son, Joshua Coleman ('27), will play an important role, ensuring the team has the guard play that aligns with Coach Coleman's preferred style.

POOL E
Atascocita: Atascocita faced a setback when starting point guard Jachai Cantave ('26) transferred to SOCAL Academy over the summer. However, the Eagles are still in a strong position, boasting one of their biggest rosters in years. Leading the charge is Jaylen Fenner ('25), a versatile forward who has committed to a Division 1 school but has not yet made his announcement. Alongside him are prolific scorer Adam Boyd ('26) and sharpshooter Zayson Salanoa ('26), creating a formidable offensive trio. On defense, Jase Mason ('25) stands out, and keep an eye on freshman Anthony Key ('28), who is expected to emerge as a significant talent from the program.

Washington: The Chris McDermott era has come to an end, marking a significant chapter in the team's history. A new phase begins in Studewood, with fresh talent stepping up. Jalen Webb ('25), who ranked fourth in scoring last season, is one to watch, along with Sam Johnson ('25), a four-year varsity player who has made considerable progress over the summer and is anticipated to play a key role. Additionally, Robert Jones ('25) is another player to keep an eye on, and it will be intriguing to see what freshman Elian Williams ('28) can contribute.

Cy Ranch: Cy Ranch faced a setback with the departure of highly skilled wing Jacob Williford ('26) over the summer. However, the team remains strong with Josh Goodwin ('26) back for his junior year. Additionally, Isaac Saavedra ('25) stands out as one of the city's top shooters, and Jon Matsliah ('26) is anticipated to make significant contributions.

POOL F
PSAT: A fresh chapter is unfolding at PSAT, featuring a largely unfamiliar roster that will attract significant attention in the city. Kijaun Arnold ('25) has joined from Ridge Point, while sophomore Brayden Allah ('27) is a player to keep an eye on, showing potential for a big time career. Additionally, sophomore Kenan Dikamba ('27), a wing player with impressive promise, is expected to be exciting to watch.

Ridge Point: Ridge Point is set to return a wealth of talent, and I recognized this while observing them last season, anticipating their strength in 24/25. Dorian Hayes ('25) will spearhead the team following an impressive summer that significantly boosted his recruitment. Additionally, Jaylen Singleton ('26), a skilled guard who transferred from Shadow Creek, made a notable impact. Logan Menefee ('25) anchors the center, while Nick Oliveri ('25) consistently delivers results.

Barbers Hill: Barbers Hill returns with a strong lineup. Aidan Williams ('25) comes back following an impressive junior season and a productive summer. Dre Charlot ('25) is a self-assured guard capable of heating up and challenging defenders. Wesley Wake ('26) stands out as a versatile stretch four, while Jaden Williams ('25) returns after spending a year at Hightower.

POOL G
College Park: College Park boasts a formidable backcourt duo in Colorado commit Ian Inman ('25) and University of Arkansas-Fort Smith commit Aidan Buckmon ('25), who guided the team to the regional quarterfinals last season and aim to improve on that success this year. Sophomore Tyson Forest ('27), known for his viral buzzer-beater 3-pointer during the Super 16 opening night last season, is expected to return from injury this weekend, adding significant talent to the roster. Additionally, Elijah Overstake ('28) and Jacob Oman ('25) are players to watch as the season progresses.

Good Vision: Good Vision has assembled a strong lineup for the Super 16. Didi Zanguim ('25) emerged as a standout prospect over the summer, generating significant interest. With the inclusion of Landon Veal ('27) and Jordy Ndjomo ('25), the team boasts impressive height in the front court. Coupled with Desean Brodie ('25) and Noah Neumann ('25) in the backcourt, it's no wonder that Good Vision supporters are confident in their chances to win the event this weekend.

Iowa Colony: To succeed in the Super 16, a strong roster is essential, and Iowa Colony possesses just that. With multiple potential leaders, BJ Gill ('25) and RJ Greene ('25) stand out as the team's key players, presenting a challenging matchup due to their relentless play. Additionally, the backcourt is bolstered by Bryce Roquemore ('26), Leon Gravesande ('25), and Jermaine Thomas ('26), providing significant depth. Daylen Dalcour's ('25) tenacity and Jayden Evans' ('25) size and length further enhance the team's overall strength.

POOL H
St Francis Episcopal: St. Francis Episcopal boasts a highly skilled roster in the event. At the forefront is Nigel Walls ('25), a 6'11" player attracting interest from multiple Power 4 programs, making him a challenging matchup. O'Marion Harvey ('25) showcases immense talent when performing at his best. John LaBoy ('25) provides stability as a point guard and excels defensively. Corey Syon ('25) has the ability to heat up and lead a team, while Christian Hodge ('25) is known for his relentless energy.

Dickinson: Dickinson consistently features a lead guard that the team rallies around, and this year, that role is filled by David Chong ('25). He follows in the footsteps of previous standout guards like Jarian Spells, Tramon Mark, Deuce Guidry, Marcus Williams, and Qasim Boyd. Chong excels at both scoring and playmaking, making him a well-rounded asset at the guard position. Following Chong, Caleb Lopez ('27) is poised to step up, having made significant contributions last season while Chong dealt with injuries. Additionally, ToryNelle Belle ('27) shows great promise and is expected to develop into a strong player.

BMT West Brook: A fresh chapter unfolds in Beaumont with the arrival of new head coach Mike Thomas at West Brook, succeeding the iconic Andre Boutte. The team boasts a strong backcourt featuring Elijah Garrett ('26) and Terry Satcher ('25). With Ashton Simmons now at TCU, Garrett steps up as the primary playmaker, prepared to lead the squad. Satcher, a scoring guard, is also poised to contribute significantly. Additionally, Seth Bagneris ('25) has the ability to make crucial shots, while Jacob Babino ('25) and Devin Polidore ('26) will provide valuable support.

GIRLS SUPER 16 "FALL HS CHAMPIONSHIP"

On September 14-15th, sixteen of the area's top high school teams met in the state's only Fall Tournament for females.  Each team played 2 pool games on Saturday which determined bracket seeds. On Sunday, all teams returned and engaged in a single elimination bracket.  The champions received a $500 donation while the runners-up got $250.

When the dust settled, it was the Shadow Creek Sharks claiming the inugural championship trophy with a climatic one point victory over the Kinkaid Falcons.  Seniors Preston Young 6'2 and Zoe Senganya 5'5 were very instrumental during the win.  Young's length and Senganya's speed proved hard to overcome.  Plus, their experience was on display against the much younger (albeit more recruitable) group of private school counterparts.

At one point, Senganya was about to check into the game, she looked at me and whispered, "How much does the winning team get?"  I responded, "Five hundred dollars".  She smiled with confidence and stated, "Might as well sign our name on the check".  The senior proceeded to stand all the way on business with that bold prediction.  However, during the final frame the rubber met the road.  Young exited the game with foul trouble, and Kinkaid seized the opportunity to attack the rim with improved odds.  The Falcons did so, and was rewarded with trips to the "Charity Stripe", but missed three of their four different free throw attempts (each made counts as 2pts).   Combine that with a pair of missed attempts in the 3rd period, and that means Kinkaid only converted 1/6 free throw appearances in the second half.

Kinkaid was paced by a trio of talented sophomores: Sydney Marshall (9pts), Lauren Hull (6pts) & Diara Gibbs (5pts).  It is worth noting that Kinkaid's prized prospect Ma'Ryiah Alfred 5'8 g 2027 did not play in the championship game after suffering a minor injury earlier in the day.  That is by no means is to be interpreted as any type of excuse.  All credit and props are due to the team no one saw coming.... and that was all the motivation the Lady Sharks needed to successfully navigate through these waters.

The top teams from various Greater Houston districts met up and "Battled for the Crown" on Feb. 17-18 @ Aldine MacArthur HS.  This event was flat out loaded with several teams who had not lost a game all season. Once the smoke cleared, the defending champ, Manvel MS (who hadn't lost a game in two years, 38-0) didn't disappoint, as Dylon Younger exploded for a game high 23p to lead Manvel past McAdams, 49-34 to successfully defend their title.
